A vaccination and a sausage, please! In the Thuringian town of Sonneberg, all those willing to vaccinate recently received a culinary thank you. According to reports, there was a real rush – but this was probably not just due to the delicious incentive.
Anyone who came to Sonneberg in southern Thuringia for a corona vaccination on Friday was rewarded with a bratwurst. 250 people reportedly had been vaccinated by the afternoon – far more than usual.

In Sonneberg, only around 140 people are usually vaccinated against the virus a day, said Jörg Metz, head of the pandemic staff of the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KV) at the request of the German Press Agency.
On Friday, a Thuringian bratwurst was served for the first time as an incentive. The “bratwurst vaccination” is one of several ideas with which Thuringia wants to counter the increasing vaccination fatigue. According to the Ministry of Health, this also includes vaccination offers at football matches of the fourth division club FC Carl Zeiss Jena.
Vaccination without registration
According to a report by the “MDR”, people from all over the state came to Sonneberg on Friday. According to a KV employee, however, the rush has less to do with the tasty reward. Rather, so many people who wanted to be vaccinated had come because no prior registration was required. The first patient had already eaten his thank you at 6 a.m. The report continues to call for the bratwurst vaccination every Friday for one month.
Finance Minister and Chancellor candidate Olaf Scholz (SPD) also spoke out in favor of such “realistic offers”. “We must now bring the vaccination to the people and convince as many citizens as possible to get vaccinated,” tweeted Scholz on Sunday. He also posted a picture of himself biting into a bratwurst.
