Michael Freedy wanted to be vaccinated – but only in a year. But the virus was faster, Freedy died of Covid-19. His fiancée therefore issued an urgent warning.
US President Joe Biden recently said that the Covid-19 pandemic in the USA has now become a “pandemic of the unvaccinated”: Most people who are in intensive care with the coronavirus or who even die from it are not vaccinated. A severe course is very rare in people who have received the vaccination and still become infected.
Yet many Americans still refuse to take the vaccination, either for ideological reasons or because they fear possible side effects. Some of them become infected with the virus and endanger their lives – and then bitterly regret their decision. However, it is then too late for a vaccination, and doctors can often no longer help. As in the case of Michael Freedy from Las Vegas.
Patient wanted to wait a year before vaccination
The 39-year-old recently died of Covid-19. He leaves behind his fiancée Jessica DuPreez and five children aged 17, 16, seven, six and one and a half years. There is a very high probability that Freedy’s death could have been prevented – if he had opted for a vaccination.
Freedy, however, was skeptical, he feared previously unexplored side effects and therefore wanted to wait a year before getting vaccinated. But he never had the intention not to be vaccinated at all, his fiancée told NBC. But the virus was faster: two weeks ago he tested positive, then got severe breathing problems, was admitted to the intensive care unit and had to be connected to a ventilator. A little later he died.
The family has now been vaccinated
Freedy bitterly regretted his decision not to get vaccinated, but it was too late. As his fiancée reported, one of his last text messages to her was, “I should have taken the goddamn vaccine.” DuPreez also wanted to wait with the vaccination, but has since made a different decision. With her grief, she went public to warn others about the same mistake her fiancé made.
“He was only 39,” says Jessica DuPreez, “our children don’t have a father now.” Your warning to everyone: “You cannot say, ‘I am young, it will have no effect on me.’ It will.”
