Around 21 million people have been infected with Corona in Germany so far. According to an estimate by the World Health Organization (WHO), around one in ten Covid 19 patients later suffers from long covid. The complaints are diverse, around 200 symptoms are associated with the disease. One speaks of Long Covid when the disease does not heal within a few days or a few weeks. Some can no longer taste or smell anything, some complain of so-called brain fog, the feeling of being foggy in the head and others are just exhausted. The diagnosis is difficult, and those affected are often not taken seriously. The complaints are too unclear. There are experts who estimate that you have to see up to ten specialists to rule out other causes of the problems. There are even experts who, in view of the omicron wave and the easing of restrictions, are warning that Long Covid could grow into a new widespread disease.

Even if running strengthens the immune system, especially in the fresh air, a growing number of runners are now also affected by the long-term symptoms. Because the disease is so little researched, the uncertainty is great. So an important topic. That’s why we dealt with it intensively in the new episode of the podcast “She runs. He runs”. These are key questions that runners should consider after a Covid infection. There are indications that after a corona infection, the risk of developing myocarditis increases significantly. Overall, the risk of cardiovascular disease increases significantly compared to non-infected people. What does this mean for training? How long should you pause? Or what are the treatment options? Listen in.
