According to an analysis by the Robert Koch Institute, vaccinations against the coronavirus are highly effective and can save tens of thousands of lives. According to a model calculation, the vaccination campaign prevented an estimated 38,300 deaths in the course of the third corona wave. The number of prevented reports is put at over 706,000 – that of inpatients to more than 76,600, that of patients in the intensive care unit to almost 20,000. “This high effectiveness of the Covid-19 vaccination campaign shows impressively that vaccinations pave the way out of the pandemic,” writes the RKI in the analysis published on Friday.
Germany is currently at the beginning of a fourth wave. In order to keep their extent as low as possible, it is necessary to increase the proportion of the vaccinated population as quickly as possible. More than 45 million people in Germany are now fully vaccinated against the corona virus – 54.5 percent, as Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) wrote on Twitter on Saturday. A total of 51.8 million people or 62.3 percent received at least one first vaccination.
