There are a total of 300 million alveoli in both lungs. This is where the gas exchange takes place, during which the blood is enriched with oxygen before it is pumped through the entire body by the heart to supply all systems.
According to Bartrow, it is often underestimated how positive correct breathing can have on the nervous system and thus on emotions and psyche. It is not for nothing that people with anxiety and depression often experience symptoms of acute shortness of breath or uncomfortable pressure in the abdomen and chest. “Deep and controlled breaths therefore have a positive effect on our world of emotions,” says the expert.
The reason for this is: Breathing directly influences the vagus nerve, which controls a large number of internal organs and metabolic processes. If you breathe deeply and evenly, the vagus nerve switches to relaxation. If, on the other hand, you take a hectic and irregular breath, the body and psyche immediately react stressed. So if you learn to breathe properly, you will have a better grip on your health and soul.
