Sylvain Lesné, French neuroscientist, made an immensely important discovery in Alzheimer’s research in 2006. However, it is now said to be based on fake photos, which would mean that for years funds flowed into studies that were built on a large pile of sand.
It’s still just a suspicion. A serious one, however: one of the most cited and therefore most influential scientific works on Alzheimer’s disease in the past two decades allegedly contains forged photographs. And it probably doesn’t stop there. As the international science magazine “Science” revealed in a detailed article last week, the same suspicion has now fallen on more than 20 publications by the same author.
