Booster: Who should be vaccinated a fourth time now?

The number of infections with the corona virus is still high – and autumn is just around the corner. The virologist Ulrike Protzer and the infectiologist Peter Kremsner describe what this means for the booster vaccinations and who they recommend for a second booster.

Who should be vaccinated now, Ms. Protzer?
First of all, everyone who does not yet have a full vaccination protection. The Standing Vaccination Commission (STIKO) has so far recommended a second booster for people over 70. However, there is now good data showing that it also offers real additional benefits to those over 60. I would therefore recommend the fourth vaccination to them as well. For all others, the answer depends on individual risk. With any kind of previous illness – and that starts with severe obesity or high blood pressure – the second booster is an advantage.
