The drug commissioner of the federal government wants to enforce a cannabis limit of six grams per person. But what does the population actually think of weed and its medicinal benefits?
According to the drug commissioner of the federal government, Daniela Ludwig (CSU), the possession of small amounts of cannabis should in future only be regarded as an administrative offense. She advocates a nationwide upper limit for personal use of six grams per person. In doing so, the politician has brought the subject of cannabis and its positive health effects back into the public eye.
Cannabis has been legal in Germany since March 2017, provided it comes from state-controlled cultivation or imports. In Germany, medical cannabis prescribed by a doctor is widely accepted, as a survey by the Statista Global Consumer Survey shows. Accordingly, 38 percent of those questioned would be treated with it. Just as many consider it a good alternative to traditional medicinal products. After all, 28 percent even say that cannabis should be legal for everyone.
In contrast, there are around 18 percent who are against legalization. Around a fifth of those surveyed were also concerned about the potential risks associated with taking CBD. Of all 2,071 people surveyed, around 15 percent have already had experience with medical cannabis.
