An antiperspirant has been shown to reduce the smell of sweat under the armpits and is therefore indispensable for the daily morning routine in the bathroom. After deodorant rollers and spray cans dominated the shelves of drugstores for a long time, they are now facing competition from deodorant creams.
Deodorants without aluminum salts have been around for a long time: It is not only natural cosmetics that do without questionable ingredients in antiperspirants – many conventional products also do not contain any antiperspirant ingredients. But what exactly is the difference between a deodorant cream and conventional roll-ons and sprays? In fact, it is not so much the composition as the fact that the cream should be much more economical and therefore more durable than ordinary antiperspirants. In addition, most products do without plastic packaging, instead the manufacturers rely on cans made of metal or glass. And that is by no means all of the advantages that deodorant creams have to offer.

A deodorant cream offers these advantages
- By using alternative ingredients such as zinc oxide, baking soda, aloe vera, shea or cocoa butter, almond or coconut oil, the daily smell of sweat should be counteracted naturally.
- In addition, the content of a Deocreme should be significantly more economical than that of a normal deodorant roller or spray, so that you can enjoy it longer – and the higher price seems justified.
- By doing without synthetic preservatives, colorings, fragrances or alcohol, deodorant creams should be particularly kind to the skin. Above all, people benefit from this sensitive skin types.
- In terms of sustainability, it is also important that deodorant creams do not contain any greenhouse gases and that less waste is produced (due to the long productivity). Many packaging is even made from recycled materials.

Which deodorant is recommended?
The scent note of a deodorant cream is determined by the various ingredients. Which cream you choose is ultimately a pure sack of taste. Since most of the varieties are free from aluminum salts, alcohol, synthetic preservatives and fragrances, you can’t go wrong with a purchase. Basically, it is recommended to pay attention to natural cosmetics – for health reasons, but also for the sake of the environment. Particularly popular brands are, for example:
i+m
The deodorant is filled into glasses and sealed with an aluminum lid. There are seven different types, including a fragrance-free version for sensitive skin: According to the manufacturer, contains this product neither mineral oils nor lactose, aluminum salts, gluten, paraffins, parabens or PEG. i+m stands for vegan, climate-neutral and cruelty-free cosmetics.
Greendoor
The brand too Greendoor relies on natural cosmetics. The products should be made from purely herbal ingredients. Your deodorant cream is available in four different versions: a classic, with activated charcoal, for sensitive skin and a special one for men. The bags are made from 100 percent recycled plastic and hold 50 milliliters. According to the company, all products are aluminum-free.
Pony
Pony hats
Also the deodorant creams with coconut oil and shea butter from Pony hats do without aluminum salts, synthetic preservatives and alcohol. According to the company, the vegan products are filled by hand into small PET bottles in a Berlin factory – which in turn can be sent back to the manufacturer after consumption and reused.
How to use a deodorant correctly
Due to the high yield, it is not necessary to use the Deocreme to distribute generously under the armpits. Instead, just take a small amount and rub it gently into the skin with your fingers using circular motions. It is important here that you clean your armpits with a little water and a mild soap (preferably with a washcloth) before application – unless you have just had a fresh shower. Let the cream soak in briefly.
Tip: Since most products do not contain alcohol, they can be safely applied to freshly shaved armpits. There is no risk of skin irritation.

Storing deodorant cream: this is how it works
Normally, a deodorant cream – as the name suggests – has a creamy consistency. However, the natural ingredients are relatively sensitive to heat, so that the content can quickly become liquid in the summer months. This does not change the effect, but it is much more difficult to apply. For this reason, it is advisable to have a Deocreme especially in summer to store in a shady and cool place. And don’t worry: even liquid deodorant will set again as soon as it cools down.
Now
One more important note at the end: Like any normal antiperspirant (without aluminum), a deodorant only counteracts the smell of sweat – it does not reduce the amount of armpit sweat.
