A man convulses several times and seems to be mentally declining. In rehab, a doctor discovers what’s really wrong with him.
Recorded by Constanze Löffler
The patient had come to us for neurological rehabilitation from an acute clinic. He had been lying there because he had suffered a stroke. The doctors had succeeded in dissolving the clot in the brain with blood-thinning drugs; the signs of the stroke had receded. But then the man had cramped and had been treated accordingly. The colleagues had also diagnosed dementia after the patient had performed noticeably poorly on some psychological tests. Now I was supposed to meet him in his room for the admissions interview: the patient could hardly be spoken to. He lay in bed and dozed off.
