The legal dispute between the European Union and the British pharmaceutical company Astrazeneca has been resolved. The group will guarantee the outstanding vaccination doses until next spring.
The European Union (EU) has reached an out-of-court settlement with Astrazeneca in the dispute over non-deliveries of corona vaccines. This envisages that the British-Swedish company will deliver a total of 135 million more vaccine doses in the second half of 2021, the EU Commission said in Brussels on Friday. By the end of March 2022, Astrazeneca is said to have delivered all of the contractually agreed 300 million cans.
With reference to production problems, Astrazeneca has so far delivered significantly less vaccine to the EU than contractually agreed. The Commission, which had negotiated the supply contracts with the various vaccine manufacturers on behalf of the Member States, took legal action in May. The company itself denied having broken the contract it concluded with the EU.
The agreement that has now been reached was also confirmed by Astrazeneca in a statement. According to both sides, the legal dispute has thus been shelved.
