A 116-year-old woman from Turkey had to spend three weeks in the intensive care unit after a corona infection. Now she seems to have survived the disease.
A 116-year-old woman from Turkey has apparently survived a corona infection. As a Turkish news agency reported with reference to her son, Ayşe Karatay was able to be transferred from the intensive care unit to a normal ward of a hospital in Eskişehir.
“My mother got sick when she was 116 and was in intensive care for three weeks,” said her son. “Her health is now very good and she is getting better and better.” The 116-year-old is likely to be one of the oldest people in the world to have survived an infection with the corona virus.
Another 116-year-old survived Covid 19 disease
Karatay comes from the city of Emirdağ in the west of the country. She had tested positive for the virus last month. She was probably infected by a family member. Karatay had previously received the first dose of vaccination against Covid-19.
Infection with the coronavirus can be life-threatening, especially for old people. However, some very old people also survive a Covid 19 disease. At the beginning of the year, the second oldest person in the world, a 116-year-old nun from France, survived an infection.

Ministry of Health advises vaccination against Corona
The Federal Ministry of Health counts people aged 60 and over in the risk group who is particularly susceptible to severe courses of Covid-19. That is why the corona vaccination is particularly urgently recommended for this group. In addition, the federal and state governments continue to call on people to pay particular attention to distance and hygiene rules and to wear a mask during personal meetings with older people.
