In the USA, a supposed miracle cure against Covid-19 is developing into a real problem. In the state of Oklahoma, the poisoning is so common that the ambulances cannot help even the seriously injured, warned a report. However, the hospital concerned contradicts this representation (update).
Update 8. September:
The hospital management has the representation Dr. McElyas meanwhile disagreed and stressed that no patients had been turned away. The doctor had not treated any ivermectin patients there and had not been there in the last two months,.
Original message from September 4th:
The fight against the pandemic has long since developed into a distinct culture war in the USA. Vaccination numbers remain low, especially in Republican strongholds. For this, more and more people are relying on the supposed protective effect of the parasite drug Ivermectin. But this is becoming more and more of a real danger: the poisoning caused by it has reached shocking proportions.
“The emergency ambulances are so full that even gun victims can hardly be brought in for treatment”Jason McElya, a doctor who works in rural Oklahoma, complained to the local broadcaster “KFOR”. “All of our ambulances are stuck in hospitals waiting for beds to be vacated to bring in new patients. But none will be free. If there is no ambulance available, none will come when you call them.”
Farm animal medicine as a miracle cure
The high number of ivermectin overdoses is to blame. The deworming agent is traded in circles of vaccination skeptics as a miracle cure against the coronavirus CoV-Sars2. But instead of going to the doctor, people just take it themselves. “There are reasons that you need a doctor’s prescription first. That stuff can be dangerous”, explains McElya.
In the wrong dosage, the drug, which is also approved in Germany, can trigger symptoms of poisoning such as dizziness, cramps or vomiting. The fact that these are currently increasing is due to the dosage. Because they don’t have a prescription, many US citizens source ivermectin products that are freely available – those that are actually intended for livestock. They are freely sold in specialist shops. But the doses developed for the much heavier bodies of horses or cows are far too high for humans.

Easy to get
“The people here are not afraid of ivermectin”, explains the country doctor. “Anyone growing up in small, rural towns has accidentally come into contact with ivermectin. One is used to it. Because you accidentally get a little bit off by vaccinating cows, for example.” But if they were to be taken deliberately, they would underestimate the doses. “Some taking the wrong dosages have now put themselves in worse shape than if they had gotten Covid”McElya believes. “The worst thing I saw was the loss of sight.”
Two weeks ago, the Mississippi health authority issued an urgent warning of the increase in poisoning. “You are not a horse”, it said in a social media campaign. The manufacturers of the agent have also intervened and emphasize that no benefit against Covid-19 has been proven. Obviously it was of little use: According to numerous agricultural dealers, the livestock drug is sold out.
