Time pressure, stress and lack of staff: intensive care nurse Ricardo Lange regularly denounces grievances in the health care system. Apparently, one of his employers didn’t like it that much: According to his own statements, he is no longer allowed to work in a certain clinic.
Ricardo Lange is one of the best-known nursing staff in Germany and reaches a broad public via Twitter, a podcast and his own column in the “Tagesspiegel”. In April 2021, the intensive care nurse was a guest at a federal press conference to talk about the effects of the corona pandemic in the clinics. In public appearances like this one and in interviews, Lange advocates better patient care and better working conditions for nurses. However, his commitment does not seem to be welcomed everywhere, as can be seen from a post that Lange published on Twitter.
“So far, the negative effects of my efforts to improve patient care have been limited to insults,” wrote Lange. “Now I am no longer allowed to work in a clinic because I am too effective in the media for the care. I am disappointed!”
The post does not reveal which clinic it is. According to information from the “Tagesspiegel”, Lange has been working in the hospital for a long time. Lange works as an intensive care nurse and switched to temporary work three years ago because there are often better working conditions for nurses. Since then, he has been placed as a leasing worker at Berlin hospitals that lack staff. Apparently one of these clinics is no longer ready to work with Lange.
“Nobody should recognize my workplace”
Compared to the “Tagesspiegel”, he expressed his incomprehension about the decision: “I have never denigrated the hospital, have not robbed, have always refused interviews that were supposed to take place in or in front of the clinic – nobody should recognize my workplace.” He called the clinic and asked why. “Because of my media presence, I was told,” Lange told the newspaper. But he has not yet given up hope that the lock might be a misunderstanding.
He is very well received on Twitter: his post has already been shared almost 3,000 times and liked more than 19,000 times. Politicians, lawyers and other clinics have already contacted him and offered help, he told the Tagesspiegel. “That’s when you realize: you are not so alone.”
