When I started walking for the first time after a long break, I had decided to run ten kilometers along the Elbe. Once from Hamburg Altona to Teufelsbrück – that was my plan. I had ridden this route many times before, the view was great. Very early in school, I was a great runner and won numerous competitions. What should go wrong?

Everything, as I quickly discovered. I ran at full speed. It used to work too, why shouldn’t it work now? After a kilometer I was standing in the middle of the sidewalk. The lungs burned, and so did the muscles. I was completely gone, not even in sight of the Elbe. I scolded loudly: “Then it’s over now with running.”
