Israel is practicing for the next corona wave with a new virus variant

Israel has as good as survived the fourth wave of corona. Even so, Prime Minister Naftali Bennett is preparing his country for what could come: a new variant of the coronavirus.

Nevertheless, the country east of the Mediterranean is preparing for the next one: the one with a fictional new variant of the virus. According to consistent media reports, Prime Minister Naftali Bennett is leading the exercise in the style of a military maneuver.

The newspaper reports that high-ranking representatives from all important authorities are gathering this Thursday in a situation center in Jerusalem and have to react there to different scenarios. For example, depending on the situation, they should decide on issues relating to the restriction of freedom of movement, quarantine, education and air travel and coordinate their actions accordingly. According to “The Guardian” it is also about hospital capacity and the implementation of mass tests and vaccination programs, as well as legal issues and economic support for the population.

“We do not pack up our equipment and do not switch off our administrative bodies and our virus-fighting forces. On the contrary – we are still ready and challenging ourselves,” said Bennett, according to the Times of Israel. Those in charge in Israel will soon know how well this works.

Israel: Almost half vaccinated three times

According to the Israeli Ministry of Health, just under 62 percent of the 9.4 million inhabitants have been vaccinated twice, 43 percent three times. According to media reports, around a million five to eleven year olds could receive the vaccination. In a study published at the end of October by the Israeli health insurance company Meuchedet, 48 percent of the parents questioned were convinced or assumed that they wanted to have their children given the vaccination.
