Quarantine: What applies in the individual federal states after a corona contact

The number of corona cases is high. Vaccinated and unvaccinated people come into contact with the virus sooner or later. What then needs to be considered in the individual federal states? An overview.

Anyone who can be shown to have suffered from the coronavirus must isolate themselves at home and keep their distance from other people – regardless of whether they are vaccinated, recovered or unvaccinated. Many people ask themselves, however, what applies if they have had contact with a Sars-CoV-2-positive person: For whom do quarantine rules apply and for whom do not?

The federal states orient themselves: According to this, vaccinated and recovered people are generally excluded from quarantine measures after corona contact. However, if the person suffering from corona was infected with the virus variants Beta (B.1.351) or Gamma (P.1), the RKI recommends quarantine even with vaccinated and recovered contact persons. The virus variants Alpha and Delta are not included, as they are already widespread in Germany.

Basically, you should watch out for signs of illness up to the 21st day after contact, writes the RKI. “If the contact person develops symptoms despite the previous vaccination, he or she must go into self-isolation and arrange for a prompt test.”

In the overview below you will find general information on the quarantine rules of the individual countries as well as links to official portals.
