RKI: Corona incidence in Germany in double digits again – value increases to 10.0

The nationwide seven-day incidence of new corona infections has risen again. According to RKI information from Sunday morning, the value increased to 10.0. 1292 new infections were reported.

The nationwide seven-day incidence of new corona infections has risen again. As the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) announced on Sunday morning, citing information from the health authorities, the value increased to exactly 10.0. The day before the incidence was 9.4, a week ago 6.2.

The seven-day incidence indicates the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within this period. The value has so far been the basis for many corona restrictions during the pandemic, for example as part of the federal emergency brake that expired at the end of June. In the future, other values such as hospital admissions are to be taken more into account.

Incidence has been increasing since early July

The reason for the incidence value, which has been rising continuously since the beginning of July, is the highly contagious delta variant of the virus, which, according to the RKI, is now responsible for more than 50 percent of new infections.

According to the information from the RKI on Sunday morning, 1292 new corona infections and three deaths related to the virus were registered within 24 hours. The total number of corona infections recorded in Germany since the beginning of the pandemic increased to 3,744,681, a total of 91,362 corona deaths were counted. The RKI stated the number of people recovered from a corona infection at around 3,639,300.

Corona vaccination

According to the RKI, 45.9 percent of the population in Germany were fully vaccinated against the virus by Friday. At least one vaccine dose was given to 59.7 percent.
