“Nose therapy is very individual,” says ENT doctor Bernhard Junge-Hülsing. There is no miracle cure for dry mucous membranes – but there are many things worth trying. In the interview he reveals his best care tips and warns against essential oils.
Mr. Junge-Hülsing, you are an ENT doctor with a practice in Starnberg. How often do patients come to you with dry and irritated nasal mucosa?
This happens very often and affects not only older but also younger patients. If the nasal mucosa is dry and crusty, we speak medically of rhinitis sicca. Older patients often also have symptoms of so-called vasomotor rhinitis. This means that the nose is usually very dry, but suddenly starts to run, for example when the temperature changes or when eating warm food.
