Vincent Doll was deaf after birth. Now he fears that his son won’t be able to hear either. Hearing loss is one of the most common chronic diseases, but it can be treated. There are different approaches to this.
Over the past few days, Vincent Puppe, 30, has stood at his son’s baby bed again and again, clapping his hands and waiting to see whether the little one would wake up from the noise. In vain. While other parents would be happy about their baby’s peaceful sleep, Doll is alarmed. The aspiring surgeon is deaf himself: “My mother noticed at the time that I didn’t react at all to noise, but continued to sleep peacefully.” Just like his son now. An examination at the German Hearing Center at the Hannover Medical School (MHH) should now bring certainty: Does his son hear – or not?
