For many people, the day didn’t start before their first coffee. It is an integral part of the morning ritual and has an invigorating effect in tired hours. And it is luxury food. Some are so crazy about the beans that they even attribute a certain addictive potential to the coffee. But are coffee junkies real or is it more of an imaginary addiction? And how dangerous is excessive consumption? Coffee, a persistent belief, is unhealthy, can cause cancer and high blood pressure, and can even shorten people’s lives.
Stiftung Warentest has taken a closer look at seven health myths about coffee and has cleared up some common prejudices. But why this does not mean that lovers should indulge their coffee obsession excessively and how many cups are perfectly fine, you can read in the photo gallery to click through above.
The testers also looked at which beans are worth buying. Crema and espresso beans were tested. Two varieties got the top grade of 1.0 in the taste test – spoilers: they weren’t the most expensive. (Click here for the test)
