Cross Tapes: Pain relief through mesh plasters – how it works

Whether it is hardened muscles or joint pain, tension in the head, shoulder and neck area or circulatory problems: Grid plasters are intended to provide relief for all kinds of complaints – and all without medication or other active ingredients. But how exactly does it work? According to the manufacturer, the self-adhesive cross tapes are simply stuck to certain pain, acupuncture or trigger points. Since the rigid are not elastic, they cannot stretch with the skin. When the affected area is moved, microscopic shifts in the skin occur. This in turn triggers minimal stimuli that promote our body’s natural self-healing process.

Before you start using the acupuncture patches, however, there are a few things you should consider. You can find out what these are below.

What is the difference between grid paving?

The grid-shaped are made from a resistant, water-repellent and breathable material – such as polyester or polyurethane. There is a skin-friendly acrylic adhesive on the back so that the acupuncture patches stay on the skin for several days. Even if you shower, bathe or go swimming with them. They are available in different colors and sizes that are suitable for different parts of the body.

  • Size A is primarily intended for children, but can also be used on the face of adults.
  • Size B is used for treating bruises in older children as well as inflamed areas of the body or joints. For adults, however, they are suitable for use anywhere on the body except for the face (size A) and joints (size C).
  • Size C is intended to provide relief for adults with muscle problems, joint problems and back pain.

Tip: There are also special cross tapes that to help. Again, without the use of medication or pharmaceutical agents.

Who are cross tapes not suitable for?

Even if the grid paving Although they are said to have pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory properties, they are not suitable for everyone. Although there are no clinical tests to date, cross tapes can still cause unwanted skin reactions.

In this case, the plaster should be removed immediately and the affected area cleaned. People with skin problems should stay away from it altogether. The same applies to those who are prone to bruising.

You should also know that the cross tapes cannot always help with long-term complaints. It is always worth a try, but you should still see a doctor if the pain does not subside over a longer period of time. This is especially true if you have open wounds or open areas on your body – the cross tapes should not be used in these cases. This also applies to pregnant women: the cross tapes around the belly button and on the lower leg can, under certain circumstances, trigger contractions!
