An estimated 2,500 Germans die every year from taking medicines incorrectly – almost as many as there are road accident victims. A broad-based initiative is now taking action against this: doctors, patients and pharmacists are openly admitting their mistakes.
Professor Bernhard Zwißler is one of the leading anesthesiologists in Germany. He heads the anesthesiology clinic at the Ludwig Maximilian University Hospital in Munich. His team ensures that operations can be carried out with the best possible anesthesia and ventilation, with as few side effects as possible for the patients. As chief physician, Zwißler also trains the next generation of his profession. As part of the team, prospective specialists learn the modern anesthesiology procedures in a very practical way – and of course as much as possible about potential dangers and sources of error.
