No more GPs on site: This is the reality in some regions of Germany. What is the situation with healthcare in your region? Find out more about star-Graphic on the shortage of doctors.
If you get sick, you want medical help as quickly and as close to home as possible – without long journeys or endless waiting times. Many people would like to have a family doctor in the same neighborhood or a pediatrician near their school or daycare center. But the reality is often different: There is a shortage of family doctors and pediatricians, particularly in rural areas or in structurally weak urban areas. Anyone who needs an appointment with a specialist can wait for months. Anyone who lives in a village without a car, where the bus only runs every two hours, can even be completely “cut off” from medical care.
