Coronavirus: RKI reports an increasing seven-day incidence

The fourth wave of coronavirus continues to roll across Germany: The Robert Koch Institute reports a renewed increase in the seven-day incidence. The hospitalization value also increases.

The incidence of new infections with the coronavirus in Germany has risen again. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) gave the seven-day value on Tuesday morning as 387.9. The day before it was 375.7, a week ago it was 239.9 (previous month: 402.9). The value quantifies the number of new infections with Sars-Cov-2 per 100,000 inhabitants over a period of seven days.

The health authorities in Germany reported 45,690 new corona infections to the RKI within one day. A week ago there were 30,561 infections, although there were gaps in tests and reports over the course of the holidays.

More than 750,000 coronavirus infections

According to the new information, 322 deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours. A week ago there were 356 deaths. The RKI has counted 7,581,381 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic. The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections are not recognized.

In November, the federal and state governments set the so-called hospitalization incidence as the decisive benchmark for tightening the corona measures. This value indicates how many people per 100,000 inhabitants are in hospital within seven days because of a corona infection. According to the latest RKI report from Monday, the nationwide hospitalization incidence was 3.37 (Friday: 3.15), the value is not reported on the weekend.

The RKI stated the number of those who had recovered on Tuesday morning at 6,792,300. The number of people who died with or with a proven infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose to 114,351.
