Up to 20 percent of women experience pain during sex. Hamburg gynecologist and sex therapist Ulla Neubauer talks about causes and treatments.
Of course, sex can sometimes feel a twinge or hurt. But if pain during intercourse occurs frequently and spoils the fun, it’s time to take care of it. If it’s clear where exactly the pain is coming from, there’s often a remedy – and you’ll feel better during sex again. “Pain during intercourse can have very different causes,” explains Ulla Neubauer, who works as a gynecologist and sex therapist in Hamburg. The most common causes of pain during sex are easy to control. A genital infection, for example, is often the cause – and this can be easily cured with antibiotic treatment.
