An Englishman bequeathed his body to science after his death. That’s probably the only way it came out that he had three penises. An absolute medical rarity.
In Birmingham, England, medical students made a remarkable discovery: They examined a 78-year-old who had donated his body to science. They discovered that the deceased had three penises, a so-called triphallia. However, as “Newsweek” reports, the researchers assume that the person examined did not know this throughout his life. They published the case in the journal “Journal of Medical Case Reports.”
The fact that the man did not know about penis numbers two and three may seem strange at first, but it is due to his special body structure. The additional sexual organs were not fully developed on the outside. The students found her inside. “Despite the normal appearance of the external genitalia on examination, examination of a 78-year-old white male revealed a striking anatomical variation,” the researchers’ report said. And further: “Two small additional penises located sagittally behind the primary penis.”
Extra penises could have caused problems
Even if the deceased did not know about the anatomical peculiarities in his body, they may have caused him problems, it is said. Among other things, he could have had pain during sex because the two inner penises may also have become erect. In the case of multiple urethras, there could also be an increased risk of infection, but in the present case there was apparently only one urethra without branches through two of the three penises.
According to the specialist article, there had only been one reported case of triphallia in a newborn in 2020. The current case is the first in which this malformation was discovered during the examination of a dead person. Also extremely rare, but already more common, is the so-called diphallia, i.e. a development of two penises. According to the specialist article, this has been observed in around 100 cases so far and is estimated to occur in one in 5.5 million births. A few years ago, a sufferer wrote a book about his life with two penises.
