Corona: the number of new infections exceeds the 140,000 mark

The incidence value and the new corona infections in Germany have reached the next maximum values. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) gave the seven-day incidence as 706.3. The number of new infections exceeds the 140,000 mark.

The nationwide 7-day incidence reported by the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) has exceeded the threshold of 700 for the first time. The RKI gave the value of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants and week on Friday morning as 706.3.

For comparison: the day before the value was 638.8. A week ago, the nationwide incidence was 470.6 (previous month: 306.4). The health authorities in Germany reported 140,160 new corona infections to the RKI within one day. This is evident from numbers that reflect the status of the RKI dashboard at 05:01 a.m. A week ago there were 92,223 infections. It was the eighth day in a row with a new record incidence and the third day with a new high in new infections.

Experts expect more and more cases that cannot be recorded, partly because laboratories and health authorities are increasingly reaching their capacity limits.

Corona: hospitalization incidence at 3.56

According to the new information, 170 deaths were recorded in Germany within 24 hours. A week ago there were 286 deaths. The RKI has counted 8,460,546 infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic. The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections go undetected.

In November, the federal and state governments had defined the so-called hospitalization incidence as the decisive benchmark for tightening the corona measures. The number of corona patients admitted to clinics per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days was 3.56 (Wednesday: 3.34) according to the RKI.

The RKI gave the number of people who had recovered on Friday morning as 7,178,000. The number of people who died from or involved a proven infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose 116,485.
