In the mountains of Chile, a woman is feeling bad: she feels nauseous, her head hurts, her gait is unsteady. She needs help immediately.
On that day in October 2023, I had booked a trip to the Atacama Desert in northern Chile. I was traveling in a minibus with a group of doctors; we had attended a symposium on high-altitude medicine in the port city of Iquique. When we wanted to take a break in a hotel at 4000 meters, we heard that a guest was feeling very badly. Could we check on the woman?
