217,815 new corona infections: RKI reports new maximum incidence

With 217,815 new corona cases, the Robert Koch Institute has reported a significant increase in the number of cases. The incidence climbs to a record 1388.

The corona numbers continue to rise. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reported 217,815 new confirmed infections with the Sars-CoV-2 coronavirus last Friday. That is almost 30,000 more cases than on Saturday last week. The highest value was reported last Friday with 248,838 new infections. A total of 10,889,417 people in Germany have been diagnosed with Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The 7-day incidence reached a sad record on Saturday: within the last seven days, 1388 people per 100,000 Germans were confirmed to have Covid-19. The day before, this value was still 1349.5. So far, such values had only been achieved in individual federal states.

The number of deaths is currently stable

The experts at the RKI continue to assume that the number of unreported cases is significantly higher. One reason for this is that the test capacities are exhausted by the high number of cases and the health authorities are overwhelmed.

The number of people who died with a corona infection remained relatively stable at 172 cases in 24 hours. In the previous week, this value was 182. The hospitalization rate has increased slightly. On Friday, 5.45 people per 100,000 inhabitants tested positive for Corona in the hospital. However, people who were hospitalized because of other main illnesses are also counted.
