You can’t go swimming with full stomach – is it true?

Swimming after eating? You have to wait an hour or half an hour to go into the water – everyone knows this rule. We explain whether this bathing break is really necessary.
Summer time is bathing time. But especially in children, the joy is quickly clouded if they are not allowed to get back into the cool wet after the obligatory outdoor pool fries. The parents prohibit it. Because: “You can’t go swimming with a full stomach.” Everyone has heard this sentence before. But is this bathing sail really right?
The German Lebens-Rettungs-Gesellschaft (DLRG) advises from swimming with a full stomach. The reason: we eat a lot, the body needs a lot of energy to digest the dishes. “The blood is increasingly directed to the digestive tract, at the expense of muscles and brain. We often feel that through a certain inertia”describes Martin Holzhaus, spokesman for the DLRG. A physical exertion in this phase could lead to nausea or vomiting.
Full of stomach – no real danger when swimming
But direct food before swimming does not represent a real danger. An overview analysis by the US Red Cross comes to the conclusion: a full stomach has no life-threatening influence on swimmers: inside. The analysis also goes into tests from the 1960s, in which no influence on the strength or swimming performance was determined by a full stomach at swimmers: inside.
Shortly before jumping into the water, eating a greasy food is not the best idea. Nobody would probably come up with the idea of running a marathon right after the Christmas dinner. If you are waiting a bit with the jump into the cool water, you will have more fun swimming: the full stomach in the water may feel full – or the water presses something on your stomach.

Avocados
Yes, avocados are also counted among the fruits. Only 1.4 grams of sugar come to 100 grams. They contain a relatively large amount of fat, but these are unsaturated fatty acids. Vitamin A, E and B6 are also in avocados.

The DLRG expert advises never to go swimming with an empty stomach. “The body may lack the energy for movement”says Martin Holzhaus. Those who smell at the high pace consumes a total of 640 calories per hour – this corresponds to about a doner kebab with lamb and a lot of sauce.
