In the heat we sweat and lose salts in addition to water. How much do we have to drink on hot days? And is water healthier with or without carbonic acid?
Ms. Schwengel-Exner, you work as a nutrition expert at the consumer advice center in Bavaria. What do you drink at high temperatures if you are thirsty?
Very simple: tap water, nice and cool and fresh from the line. Sometimes I flavor the water with mint leaves, a lemon disc or other fruits. That gives another taste. I usually drink the water pure.
Some people are skeptical about tap water, they fear residues or contaminants. Rightly right?
Tap water is a food controlled in Germany. It can therefore be drinked without hesitation if no pale pipes are laid in the house. A few general hygiene points should also be observed.
