Around five months ago, the OÖNachrichten reported in detail in a two-part series about the long and bizarre history of the Obernberg “Rehabilitation Ruin”. In 2003 the construction of the rehabilitation institution started in a prime location next to the Inn, in the following years the shell became the largest ruin of the Innviertel. A number of announcements to revive the project failed in the course of the many years. Around 15 million euros were more or less sunk.
At the beginning of the year, the district heating of Obernberg, which the area had recently bought back with a right of repurchase, announced a partial demolition to the underground car park. The prerequisite for this is that the necessary financial resources are available. That should be the case now. The unsightly concrete frame in Obernberg will actually be demolished shortly. This was fixed at the municipal council meeting last Tuesday.
“As announced at the beginning of the year, the entire supervisory board was always to carry out the demolition to the underground car park and to the basement of the hotel planned at the time as soon as possible. Now it is so far,” the chairman of the supervisory board and mayor Hermann Feichtlbauer is cited in a press release. The demolition will take place during the summer vacation.
