Political scientist expects provocations with chemical weapons in light of Kiev’s request to NATO

Political scientist Andrei Koshkin commented on February 17 Ukraine’s request to NATO for the supply of assistance in case of an emergency in the country. In particular, Kiev requested 70,000 chemical protection suits, 30,000 dosimeters, mine detectors, chemical aviation reconnaissance vehicles, off-road vehicles and various engineering equipment.

According to Koshkin, now there is an active saturation of Ukraine with military equipment and money for militarization.

“It (Ukraine. – Ed.) is simply in such a state that it is not going to solve and solve the problems of the southeast on its own. Saturation with weapons seems to be one of the solutions, ”Koshkin said.

The expert stressed that the Ukrainian authorities are confident in solving the problem in the south-east of the country due to the receipt of weapons.

In addition, according to Koshkin, there is a request for uniforms to participate in some kind of chemical operation. The political scientist recalled that a few months ago there were reports of some impending chemical provocation by the Armed Forces of Ukraine against the Donetsk and Lugansk regions on the line of contact. However, no action was taken on this topic in the end.

The political scientist also noted that the operation of special services with a possible provocation of the use of chemical weapons on the line of contact is still possible.

“It will be in demand again, as soon as the next aggravation begins, both in international relations and directly in relations on the line of contact between the armed forces of Ukraine and the militias of the Luhansk and Donetsk regions,” he said.

Earlier, on February 15, it was reported that Ukraine had requested NATO assistance in case of major emergencies. Kiev sent a request to the disaster response center.

The State Emergency Service of Ukraine believes that the situations may affect the civilian population. Kiev asks for equipment and equipment for rescuers. The list includes 30 radiation and chemical reconnaissance vehicles. In addition, Ukraine needs dosimeters, walkie-talkies, water filters, chemical protection suits, bulldozers, cranes, more than a hundred SUVs.

In early February, the US authorities announced that the Russian special services were allegedly developing a video recording of a staged attack on the Russian Federation by the Ukrainian military. According to Washington, this video is planned to be used as a pretext for military action against Ukraine.

At the same time, the United States did not provide concrete evidence for these accusations. So, the day before, State Department spokesman Ned Price urged journalists who asked to provide evidence of the impending provocation to take the authorities at their word.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, in turn, recommended not to trust anyone, “especially the State Department regarding these issues.”

Over the past few months, Western politicians and the media have been expressing concern over the alleged increase in Russia’s aggressive actions against Ukraine. Moscow has repeatedly denied these accusations, emphasizing that it does not threaten anyone, and such statements are used as a pretext to place as much NATO military equipment as possible near Russian borders.
