Germany, which leads the Group of Seven (G7) countries, will host a summit of foreign ministers on May 12-14. This was announced on Wednesday, February 16, by a representative of the German Foreign Ministry.
“The G7 foreign ministers’ meeting under the German chairmanship will take place May 12-14 at the Weissenhaus in Schleswig-Holstein,” he told reporters.
The representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained that the historical castle, which is more than 400 years old, and the state-protected park area will help to achieve an informal atmosphere during the meeting.
The choice of the venue for the meeting was determined by such criteria as security, the ability to provide a confidential nature for the summit, transport accessibility, the possibility of accommodating delegates and media representatives, the German Foreign Ministry added.
Weißenhaus Castle was converted into a spa hotel in 2014.
Thus, within the framework of the German presidency of the G7, two summits of foreign ministers will be held – in spring and autumn.
The G7 includes the UK, Germany, Italy, Canada, France, Japan and the US.
Earlier Wednesday, Kyodo News reported plans for the G7 foreign ministers to hold an emergency meeting this week. It was noted that the meeting would take place on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference. According to government sources of the agency, the topic of the meeting should be the situation around Ukraine.
The Munich Security Conference will be attended by approximately 35 heads of state and government.
