Shortly after 5 p.m. yesterday, a 25-year-old Summerauerbahn engine driver reported that she had collided with a woman at kilometer 27.980. She immediately stopped the train and informed the emergency coordinator, who closed the railway line to all rail traffic.
A field patrol by the police, together with the Pregartsdorf fire brigade, searched the area of the tracks near the Pregartsdorf bridge. The search party did find a confused-looking woman walking beside the tracks and took her to safety.
Around 5:30 p.m., the police received a report that a 74-year-old woman had gone missing from the district home for the elderly. It turned out that the woman picked up on the tracks was the missing person. The 74-year-old, who was in short-term care at the district retirement home, wanted to walk home along the tracks and must have fallen just before the approaching locomotive. She sustained injuries of an unspecified degree. She was brought back to the district home for the elderly after initial treatment.
She was probably lucky that she fell just before the approaching train, according to the police in a broadcast. Apparently she was not hit by the train.
