About 7,000 Russian soldiers have arrived at the border with Ukraine, where 100,000 troops are already stationed. It is reported on Thursday, February 17, Bloomberg, citing US officials.
According to the agency, officials held a briefing for journalists on condition of anonymity. However, no evidence was provided for such claims.
For two months now, Western politicians and media representatives have been spreading numerous speculations about the alleged possible Russian aggression against Ukraine, pointing to the concentration of Russian forces near the border. The Russian side has repeatedly denied such accusations, emphasizing that it has no plans to invade a neighboring country. At the same time, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that the country has the sovereign right to conduct exercises and move troops across its territory as it sees fit.
In turn, the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov on Tuesday also pointed out that Russia has conducted and will continue to conduct exercises on its territory. According to Peskov, this is the right of the country, the Russian Federation can conduct exercises on its territory.
On February 16, the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the European Union (EU), Vladimir Chizhov, denied the possibility of Russia’s “invasion” of Ukraine. He stated that neither on Wednesday, nor on any other day or month, this would be possible. Chizhov also urged Western countries to take pressing security issues seriously.
A day earlier, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zakharova called February 15 the day that will go down in history as a failure of Western propaganda. Moreover, the collapse of the information war unleashed against Russia, she noted, occurred without a “single shot.”
In addition, after the forecast of the Daily Mail and The Sun tabloid that the Russian Federation would allegedly invade Ukraine at three in the morning on February 16 did not come true, Zakharova asked the Western media to immediately provide the entire schedule of “Russian invasions” for 2022. The diplomat joked that she would like to plan a vacation.
