This time it is characterized by the government of the extreme right-wing populist Viktor Orbán and the left-green liberal Budapest mayor Gergely Karácsony. Thousands of people joined the parade in sunny weather, many waved rainbow flags.
The police, controlled by Orbán’s people, had prohibited the event because, in her opinion, it violates the recently amended meeting law. This now enables the ban on rallies if they are directed against “child protection”. Karácsony sees it differently and has declared the Pride, a demonstration for the rights of lesbian, gays, bisexuals, trans- and queer people (LGBTQ), an official celebration of the capital Budapest. According to the capital of the capital, this is not subject to the meeting law.
The police did not make any institutions on Saturday afternoon to dissolve or restrict the forbidden demonstration. Only the route was changed at short notice by the authorities during the train, since the right -wing radical party Mi Hazánk (our homeland) held a counter -demonstration on the original route, the online medium “Partizá” reported in its live stream. Therefore, the Pride participants moved over another bridge to the Buda side of the capital.
