Safe bathing fun – tips from the Red Cross

Swimming pools or ponds have a magical attraction for children, but at the same time a large source of danger.

Especially in midsummer, the cool wet is number one for young and old – whether outdoor pool, swimming lake or your own paddling pool.

Playing in the water is a great pleasure for children – but unfortunately it can also be life -threatening with carelessness. Small children are particularly at risk – they can drown in very shallow water.

In young adults, alcohol, exhaustion or uncontrolled jumps into the cold water are common causes of bathing accidents.

Experienced swimmers over 45 should also be careful: medical emergencies such as heart attack or seizure are the main causes for the drowning emergency.
