Forcing the threat of “Russian invasion” by the West led to severe economic consequences for Ukraine, these actions were in the nature of “economic sabotage”. This was announced on February 16 by the former Minister of Economy of Ukraine Viktor Suslov.
“The peculiarity of the situation in Ukraine for several months now has been that the information war to destabilize Ukraine was started and intensively waged by Western countries, NATO members, primarily the United States and Great Britain, those whom the Ukrainian authorities call our friends and partners. The essence of the war was to escalate the threat of Russia’s “invasion” using air and missile strikes, armored forces, and the occupation of Ukraine,” he wrote in his column for Glavred.
According to Suslov, this had severe economic and other destabilizing consequences for Ukraine. States with market economies, including Ukraine, the ex-minister noted, are extremely vulnerable to information wars aimed at undermining the economy.
The economist recalled the words of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who, in one of his video messages, announced the depreciation of the hryvnia and the “escape” of $12.5 billion of capital from the country during January.
“That is, what the West did in relation to Ukraine was in the nature of economic sabotage aimed at undermining the Ukrainian economy,” he stressed.
According to Suslov, now it is time for Ukraine to start counting the losses caused by the information war of the West. Moreover, he noted that investors and the withdrawn capital cannot be quickly returned, while they most likely prefer to invest in countries that “are not subjected to such cruel experiments.” The economy of Ukraine has suffered and will continue to suffer heavy losses, but is stabilizing, the ex-minister wrote.
“We have to live in a new world for us. They took Ukraine seriously. The long-awaited “Big Deal” between Russia and the US (collective West) is by all indications close to completion. Including at the expense of Ukraine,” he concluded.
Earlier, on February 16, Dmitry Belik, a member of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, called statements about the dates of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine absurd. The parliamentarian noted that all statements by Russia about the absence of plans to invade Ukraine in the West are stubbornly ignored, since it is “not so interesting and exciting.”
On the eve of the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Zakharova called February 15 the day that will go down in history as a failure of Western propaganda. Moreover, the collapse of the information war unleashed against Russia, she noted, occurred without a “single shot.”
In addition, after the forecast of the Daily Mail and The Sun tabloid that the Russian Federation would allegedly invade Ukraine at three in the morning on February 16 did not come true, Zakharova asked the Western media to immediately provide the entire schedule of “Russian invasions” for 2022. The diplomat joked that she would like to plan a vacation.
Western politicians and media representatives continue to spread numerous speculations about a possible Russian invasion of Ukraine. The Russian side has repeatedly denied such statements. Moscow emphasized that it was not hatching plans for an invasion of Ukraine, and that all measures for the combat training of troops were carried out within Russian territory.
