Moscow has fabricated reports of abnormal military activity by the Ukrainian armed forces in the Donbass to justify its possible invasion. This was announced on Thursday, February 17, by the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the United Kingdom, Liz Truss.
“Such statements are egregious attempts by the Russian authorities to fabricate a pretext for an invasion. Everything is according to the old scheme of the Kremlin, ”she wrote on her page in Twitter.
A day earlier, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the Russian Federation had concerns about a possible British attack. She urged London to prove the absence of such intentions.
During the briefing, Zakharova called reports of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine mass hysteria. She stressed that the “degree of absurdity” of such statements is striking. Also, the representative of the Foreign Ministry called on Liz Truss to apologize to the people of Russia, Ukraine and Britain for her absurd statements and anti-Russian fakes.
On February 15, Zakharova had already urged London to apologize for false statements about Russian aggression. The diplomat also called February 15 the day that will go down in history as a failure of Western propaganda. Moreover, the collapse of the information war unleashed against Russia, she noted, occurred without a “single shot.”
On February 16, Dmitry Belik, a member of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, called statements about the dates of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine absurd. The parliamentarian noted that all statements by Russia about the absence of plans to invade Ukraine in the West are stubbornly ignored, since it is “not so interesting and exciting.”
Speculation by Western politicians and media representatives about allegedly planned Russian aggression against Ukraine also outraged readers of the British newspaper Daily Mail. They called on the participants of the information campaign to issue rebuttals to their accusations and to apologize.
