It has become more than 100 days since Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu was removed and arrested by the Turkish authorities under flimsy allegations.
On Tuesday evening, tens of thousands of people in Istanbul demonstrated against the arrest Imamoglus. Before the Istanbul city administration, they called slogans such as “against fascism, shoulder on shoulder” or “President Imamoglu”. Imamoglus had called for social democratic CHP party for the rally.
The Turkish government reacted to the evening demonstration with hardness. More than 40 people were arrested. They are accused of insulting President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and resistance to the security forces.
