One step in the right direction would be to us this name under nachrichten.at/ehrenamt to be announced up to and including July 31. All nominees can then be selected in the second phase of choice. Each of the 13 district winners receives 1000 euros in prize money. The national winner is then also elected from all district winners.

Around 200,000 volunteers work in the country’s sports clubs. They are the backbone of the 2500 clubs. “The honorary award should be a thank you and also be a form of recognition and motivation to continue to organize yourself in sports on a voluntary basis,” says Sports Councilor Markus Achleitner.

In the previous year, Manfred “Fredy” Rigler, youth leader of the Schärding Junior soccer players, became national winner. “The most difficult thing is to find volunteers. We have more than 220 children, divided into 14 teams, including a girls’ team. It is not easy to find people who take the time again and again.”
