AK President Stangl rejects the discussed gradual reduction in unemployment benefits over time.
The AK had the European Center for Welfare Policy and Social Research calculate the effects of higher unemployment benefits. Depending on the unemployment figures, it would cost 560 to 660 million euros per year.
A household with one unemployed person would receive between 46 and 80 euros more, depending on children or marital status. The risk of poverty would decrease – 37,300 people would benefit.
Because the authors of the study assume that the unemployed would spend almost their entire income “on everyday necessities”, higher unemployment benefits over ten years would also have a positive employment effect of 14,000 people.
