For 42 years, Wolfgang Kreuzhuber was a cathedral organist in the Linz Mariendom. Now the 67-year-old retires. As a farewell, he was given a special honor: the native Innviertler was appointed “Knight of the Papal Order of St. Pope New Year’s Eve” at the thank -you service on July 2. With the “New Year’s Order”, lay people are honored for their special commitment around the Roman Catholic Church.
Music is more than “sounding air”
Kreuzhuber presented him to Bishop Manfred Scheuer, who highlighted the power of music in his sermon. “What would man without the music that evoke feelings like no other art (emotion, note) and captivate? Music is more than ‘sounding air’, it is a special form of human expression, comparable to language. However, music, unlike the language of words, is not translatable.” And personally, Scheuer addresses Kreuzhuber: “I believe that Wolfgang Kreuzhuber has helped us to accept God’s melody in us in the decades of his work.”
