It is done: The eight -largest city in Austria will celebrate its comeback in professional football next season. After a few attempts, FC Hertha Wels managed to promote the 2nd football league-for the first time since 1998, a Wels club is represented in one of the first two leagues.
The “Mission Bundesliga” made it possible to bundle of forces: two years after the merging of FC Wels and WSC Hertha, the club from the trade fair city is at the top in the third highest division. Was a sleeping giant finally woken up with the ascent? “This success would not have been possible without the merger of the two clubs. Overall, I see this as the first step for FC Hogo Hertha Wels. Now we can prove how good we really are,” says Managing Director Peter Huliak.
Heinle takes over by Further
In the end, the team of master coach Reinhard Furthner marched with a seven-point lead over the finish line. After the autumn round, the Welser were three points behind Winter King Leoben.
The second highest division tackles a new coach: Christian Heinle, the previous sports director of the Welser junior center, whistled the summer preparation after the departure of master coach Reinhard Furthner. Not only the ex-coach of the SV Ried brings professional experience, numerous newcomers have already played in the first leagues: with Sebastian Feyrer, Andreas Radics and Kilian Schröcker, a trio from second division relegated Lafnitz, Paul Gobara (Horn), Manuel Thurnwald (Fac Vienna), Josip Eskinja (Croatia) Pascal Müller and Michael Brugger (WAC), Sebastian Malinowski (Wacker Burghausen), Benjamin Sammer and Fabian Lechner (both Ried) and Roman Steinmann (Gurten) are also new.
The Welser budget in the second highest division is also impressive: just over two million euros should be the overall budget of the association. A first goal is clear. “We want to establish ourselves once, but in the long term we can certainly continue to grow and may be involved in the top five over the years,” says Huliak. In any case, the anticipation is great.
