All passengers and crew have been evacuated from the burning Euroferry Olympia off the coast of Greece to rescue boats. On Friday, February 18, the Athens Macedonian News Agency (AMNA) reports.
All passengers are reported to be in good health. The Hydra frigate and three helicopters headed to the area of the incident. Five port service vessels and one Italian Coast Guard vessel are on site and operating.
Earlier in the day, a major fire broke out on the Euroferry Olympia cruise ferry with 237 passengers and 51 crew members off the coast of Greece in the Ionian Sea.
According to Skai.gr, the ferry was on the Igoumenitsa-Brindisi route and was in Ereikus at the time of the fire. The source of ignition, presumably, was on the deck of the third floor. The captain requested the evacuation of the ship. Three Coast Guard ships, tugs and boats immediately arrived on the scene.
