Anyone who has ever renovated a house knows the feeling: it gets worse at first before it gets better. On a large scale, this also applies on the former eastern exhibition center, where, after the extensive demolition work of the past few months, only isolated ruins are currently protruding from a dust and concrete desert.
The turning point has come: Yesterday, city politicians, construction companies and planners set the groundbreaking for the “Volksgarten new”. He marked the beginning of the work for the “Volksgarten new” project. By 2026, the new park is to be built on a total of eleven hectares, which opens the city towards the Traun. “It is thanks to a broad political consensus and the good financial situation of Wels that we can implement this project of the century,” said Mayor Andreas Rabl (FP) at yesterday. He sees a legacy for the city in the facility: “Because we know from other cities: What is once a park usually remains park.”
Line network starts
The city senate has already decided on the first awards, most recently for the planning of the “Welser Bay” on the Traun and floating stage, the electrical installations, two self -cleaning toilets and the parking furniture. In the first step, the EWW investment technology will move lines around Welios by the end of July, then continue from there to the old Traunbrücke. As reported, the work on the forecourt of the town hall, which will be redesigned by the beginning of September, are also available. The Held and Francke company is responsible for the civil engineering work, the Swietelsky company is still busy demolition – from August the old exhibition halls west of the Almtalbahn turn.
