It “runs” really well with Klaus Grünbart, in the truest sense of the word. The 23-year-old Tumeltshamer, who has been launching ÖTB Upper Austria Athletics for several years, has improved his personal bests over 100 and 200 meters in the past few weeks. On June 14th he ran the 100 meters at a meeting in Regensburg in 10.49 seconds.
The 200-meter sprint distance completed Grünbart, which studies business administration in Linz, at the European Team Championship of Division 2 in Maribor in Slovenia in a time of 21.35 seconds. With this time, Grünbart leads the Austrian leaderboard this year. The 23-year-old is currently in fourth place over the 100 meters. In addition, Grünbart was in a newly compiled 4×100 meter relay at the European Team Championship, which Austria ended in good seventh place.
“Was a huge experience”
“Participation in this team of Thursday to Monday was a huge experience for me. Actually, you are a single athlete in athletics, so it was all the better to perform together as a team. The atmosphere was really great,” says Grünbart in an interview with the oönachrichten. The joy of saying on the side of the Taufkirchner Olympichadaller Lukas Weißhaidinger was particularly great. “I’ve always wanted that. Something like this motivates me and I take it into daily training,” says Grünbart, who only started athletics at the age of around 15 years. “I was previously at the Ried gymnastics club. But it became clear to me that it would probably not be enough to be international. Then I looked around after a different individual sport in Ried. I finally landed with the LAG Ried about a school colleague.” The sprinter has been training in Linz for a long time. Grünbart invests 25 hours average in training, including physio and massage. “From the pure training period, I am valued 70 percent on the career and 30 percent in the Kraftkammer,” says Grünbart, adding: “I design my life like a professional athlete. The big difference is that I don’t get any money for it.”
