There was also another increase in hospital patients. Within a day, 34 people who died from or with Covid-19 were also reported. The seven-day incidence decreased slightly.

At over 31,000, the number of new infections was again above the average for the past seven days (29,594). The seven-day incidence had a slight decrease from 2,336.4 to 2,319.1 cases per 100,000 population within one week. The number of active cases also fell by 3,572 to 302,866. The number of reproductions of the corona virus in Austria, which shows how many other people an infected person infects on average, also fell from 0.99 to 0.97 in a weekly comparison, AGES reported on Friday.

However, there was still an increase in the number of Covid patients in hospitals. 28 more people had to be treated in hospitals with an infection. There are currently 2,291 people in the hospital. The number of patients in the intensive care units has remained relatively constant. 194 people currently need intensive care treatment. That’s two fewer in a day, but six more in a week.

It will continue to be tested diligently

34 people with an infection have died in the past 24 hours, most of them – ten – in Styria. There were 200 deaths within a week. The pandemic has so far claimed 14,537 lives in Austria. This means that within these two years, 162.7 people per 100,000 inhabitants died from or with Covid-19.

Even if the future corona test strategy is still being discussed in the health committee on Friday, the Austrians are still busy testing. In the past 24 hours, 696,600 rapid PCR and antigen tests were registered – around 80 percent, namely 557,486 tests, were meaningful PCR tests. The positive rate of the PCR tests is currently 5.6 percent. Almost 200 million tests have been carried out since the pandemic broke out two years ago.

The federal state with the highest seven-day incidence is currently Lower Austria with 2,508.4, followed by Upper Austria with 2,505.6, Vorarlberg with 2,469.5 and Styria with 2,348.4. Then come Carinthia (2,285), Vienna (2,277.4), Tyrol (2,124.2), Salzburg (1,925.1) and Burgenland (1,551.3). In absolute numbers, Vienna has recorded the most new infections within one day. 6,805 new cases were registered in the federal capital. There were 6,702 new cases in Lower Austria, 5,750 in Upper Austria, 4,028 in Styria, 2,385 in Tyrol, 1,748 in Carinthia, 1,738 in Salzburg, 1,413 in Vorarlberg and 597 in Burgenland. Since the outbreak of the disease, there have already been 2.4 million confirmed cases in Austria. 2.1 million people have recovered from this.

6,234,959 people and thus 69.8 percent of Austrians have valid vaccination protection. The number of first bites has fallen sharply. Of the 8,651 vaccinations carried out on Thursday, only 748 were first stitches, 2,746 second stitches and 5,157 third stitches. Burgenland has the highest protection rate (valid vaccination certificate) at 75.8 percent. In Lower Austria 71.9 percent of the population have a valid vaccination protection, in Styria 70.6 percent. After Vienna (68.9), Tyrol (68.2), Carinthia (66.7), Salzburg (66.1) and Vorarlberg (65.7), Upper Austria brings up the rear with 65.5 percent.
